The Apartment

Tonight is my last night in my flat so for posterity's sake he's a shot of the backyard. Don't ya just love that view?!

The Bay

Here's a shot I took on World Pinhole Day in 2002 on a modified cheap crappy camera. Suffice to say it's the only decent shot I took on the day. It's on the web along with a bunch of other shots from the day, and shortly it'll be visible outside 101 Willis St (I hope) if you look carefully.

If you can name the location you win a prize - the prize being that you can take me out for a coffee. Bet that's an offer you can't refuse.

The Rapture

I feel I started something a couple of days back that is just going to continue. Music is a big part of my life. I play - stereos and instruments - and I've appropriated song lyrics for at least 3 exhibitions. So here are some more lyrics from the Ipod.

With photographs
And magnetic tape
We capture
Pretty animals in cages
Pretty flowers in vases
Enraptured

And doesn't the tree
Write great poetry?
Doing itself so well

Thanks Laura. You may also be surprised by how many musicians think they are photographers too. Come on down Lou Reed, Michael Stipe, Patti Smith, and um Bryan Adams - yes that Bryan Adams (would the be BBC lie?!). I'm sure there are more out there. Let me know.

The Standards

Seeing as the NZ International Art Festival opens tonight, here's a shot I took during the 2002 Festival. An English artist whose name I've long forgotten made these living standards and placed them at various sites around the city. They were extremely beautiful and peaceful places. These particular ones were in Charles Plimmer Park, Mount Victoria.

The Excitement

Yes after weeks of trying to understand html and many months of procrastination my website is now live and available for all to view. Feel free to email me your thoughts about it, especially if you come across any problems. Oh the excitement!!

The David

This was inspired by my friend David who has just moved to Hong Kong. He'll understand it even if no one else does.

The Path

Further up the track, in fact at the top of the hill, was this nicely lit path. You have to love a camera that can give a decent exposure on a scene like this. Thanks Agfa - thanks for going out of business. It's been fun doing this walk backwards, but now I'm out of decent shots. Oh well ... I guess four decent shots in 10 years is an okay average.

The Song

So there I was, blindly trying to post comments and play with html when these words drift out from the Ipod.

If I was a photographer,
Picture taking,
Beautiful people,
I guess I'd make a mistake,
'Cause I'd probably take a,
Picture of you.

I'd just like to state for the record that that will never happen here. You will never see a picture of anybody on this blog. I hate people. That's why I photograph.

Oh and thanks to Chan for the lyric. What would the community think? I mean really!

The Weed

It's hard to beat backlit foliage on a good day and further up the hill I came across this lovely patch of Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora (montbretia), one of our friendly african invaders, classified as a pest/noxious plant in some parts of the country. But it's oh so pretty!

The Gate

This lovely wee gate was just up the path from the bowling club. Due to the fact that I was coming down the path I actually shot this prior to the bowling club.

The Second But Also The First!

When you haven't taken a photo for over a month, sometimes you just have to pick up that old german camera and go for a wander. I was actually checking out a new flat, and this was on the way home. Just gotta love that evening light. Just gotta love bowling club architecture too really. There'll be a few more from that little wander popping up here soon.

The First?

Well it had to happen really didn't it. I've never been one for original ideas. In fact I think originality is over-rated. So following in the footsteps of the forever groundbreaking Shazza, and her protegee (of sorts) Jodi, I've started my own blog.

Come along, join us for the ride. Start your own blog, put up some photos and we can make a real online community of it. Critique each others work, offer encouragement when you see good work, offer harsh criticism when you see a photo you wish you'd taken, that kind of thing. Saves actually talking in person eh?

So as with Sharyn and Jodi, I'll be throwing up random photos - some nice shots, some favs, some plays, some experiments, some wastes of film, some proper works, some just cos I can. Posts may be infrequent, but they may not.

The journey starts here.

... in a bit.
